III.Basic Concepts of Reverse Osmosis (RO)
Reverse osmosis is a process that uses the "screening effect" of a semipermeable membrane to allow water molecules to pass through the membrane and retain solutes at a pressure higher than the osmotic pressure of the solution. Its principle is opposite to natural osmosis (water diffuses from a low-concentration solution to a high-concentration solution), so it is called "reverse osmosis". Primary reverse osmosis means that water is treated only through a set of reverse osmosis membrane components, and fresh water is directly produced after the water flows through the membrane without secondary concentration or reprocessing. Compared with "secondary reverse osmosis" (water enters the second-stage membrane component after the first-stage treatment), the primary system structure is simpler, but the purity of the produced water is relatively low.
