Latest company news about Introduction to Pure Water, Ultrapure Water, and Purified Water Equipment

The terms pure water, ultrapure water, and purified water may superficially seem like subsets of purified water, but they differ significantly in both water quality specifications and process requirements.

I. Pure Water Equipment:

Pure water equipment refers to water treatment systems designed to produce pure water for various industrial applications, with reverse osmosis (RO) technology as the core treatment process. It is commonly used for food and beverage production, chemical process water, industrial product cleaning, and light chemical/precision chemical applications. RO-based pure water production is further categorized into single-stage and two-stage RO processes, depending on source water quality and required pure water quality. Simply put, single-stage RO involves one pass through RO membranes, while two-stage RO involves passing the product water from the first RO stage through a second RO membrane stage. RO pure water equipment is an essential foundational component in all current processes for producing purified water and ultrapure water. By adding further process combinations to standard pure water, we can produce either purified water or ultrapure water tailored to customer needs.

II. Purified Water Equipment:

Purified water equipment refers to systems designed to produce purified water for various industries, primarily focusing on pharmaceutical purified water. Core technologies include reverse osmosis (RO) equipment and Electrodeionization (EDI). Purified water produced by this equipment is typically used in pharmaceuticals, biochemistry, chemicals, hospitals, and related sectors. Its product water must meet the following specifications: compliance with purified water standards of the Chinese Pharmacopoeia, endotoxin ≤ 0.25 EU/ml, microbial count ≤ 10 CFU/ml, conductivity < 0.2 μS/cm (i.e., resistivity ≥ 5 MΩ·cm), and it must be a colorless, odorless, clear liquid. National purified water standards are further subdivided into Pharmaceutical Water for Injection (WFI) standards and Pharmaceutical Purified Water (PW) standards. Water directly contacting the human body must meet WFI standards, while water not directly contacting the body adheres to PW standards. Standard process flows for conventional pharmaceutical purified water and water for injection are mentioned in the product showcase.

III. Ultrapure Water Equipment:

Ultrapure water equipment refers to systems designed to produce ultrapure water for various high-tech industries. Core technologies include water pretreatment, reverse osmosis (RO), Electrodeionization (EDI), ultrapurification, and post-treatment processes. It is generally used in solar photovoltaic (PV), electronics, semiconductors, printed circuit boards (PCBs), and high-tech precision product manufacturing. Its product water must meet the following requirements: near-total removal of electrolytes (resistivity > 15 MΩ·cm), very low levels of non-ionized colloidal substances, gases, and organic matter. Ultrapure water quality is categorized into five industry standards: 18.1 MΩ·cm, 15 MΩ·cm, 10 MΩ·cm, 2 MΩ·cm, and 0.5 MΩ·cm, to differentiate between different grades.

IV. Ultrapure Water Treatment Process Flows:

The process flows for ultrapure water treatment equipment are broadly classified as follows:

  1. Traditional Ion Exchange Resin Method:
Raw water → Quartz sand filter → Activated carbon filter → Precision filter → Cation exchange bed → Anion exchange bed → Mixed bed (MB) → Pure water tank → Pure water pump → Post precision filter → Point of use (POU)

  2. Combined RO + Ion Exchange Method:
Raw water → Quartz sand filter → Activated carbon filter → Precision filter → RO equipment → Pure water tank → Mixed bed (MB) → Ultrapure water tank → Ultrapure water pump → Post precision filter → Point of use (POU)

  3. Combined RO + EDI Method (Modern & Eco-Friendly):
Raw water → Quartz sand filter → Activated carbon filter → Precision filter → RO equipment → Pure water tank → Electrodeionization (EDI) → Ultrapure water tank → Ultrapure water pump → Post precision filter → Point of use (POU)
(This is a newer process for ultrapure water production, offering an environmentally friendly, economical, and highly promising solution).
