I.Overview
EDI (Electrodeionization) is a water treatment technology that combines ion exchange resin with electrodialysis membranes to continuously produce high-purity water (with resistivity as high as 18 MΩ·cm or more). It is a core component of ultra-pure water production. “EDI marks the transition of ultra-pure water systems from ‘chemical regeneration’ to ‘continuous physical purification,’” and in the semiconductor/pharmaceutical industries, EDI has replaced mixed-bed systems as an industry standard (SEMI F63).
